Bicycles in Iowa County, Wisconsin

The Military Ridge Bike Trail crosses Canyon Park Road about 4 miles east of Dodgeville. It’s about a half mile (up and down a good sized hill) from the cabin. You can see it here in the Google Satellite Image. And Google Maps show it as the railroad track, it’s former use.

In addition to the Military Ridge Trail, Road Biking is popular and rewarding. The area is mentioned in Espn’s Top Ten! 

There are also competitions that are challenging. These roads races test the mettle of any biker. The Horribly Hilly Hundreds begins in Mt. Horeb, about twenty minutes from Canyon Park.

The Dairyland Dare is another event and is held in Dodgeville with various timed lengths and challenge sets.

And the Bombay Bicycle Club hosts this event. Canyon Park is about 15 miles from Taliesin.

And there is a new site about biking in SW Wisconsin.

If you look closely, you’ll see deer on the ridge to the east, looking out the front door of the cabin.

BY-PASS

This old sign was here when we got here. 14 years ago. At that time I thought that it would tip over any minute.
It indicates that there is a spot to pullover on the one-lane road that goes down through the canyon and back. You can still see where the “by-pass” was if you look closely when you’re at that spot. There are couple of other areas that you can see that must have been by-passes. There is one on the way down the big hill going into the canyon, you’ll be sure to spot that one if you need it!

I took these photos a week or two ago and I hope it’s still there in the summer when all is green and I can get a different background. I really hope it’s there for a few more years so I can get more photos.
