We were honored to have Canyon Park featured in the newsletter of the Iowa County Historical Society. The article by Phil Mayer is an excellent overview of the history and features of this hidden gem.

The first flower to be seen is the Skunk Cabbage.
The birds are busy busy busy and we heard lots of early songbirds last week. The cardinals, blue jays and robins are the least shy and easily identified. The bluebirds and the smaller birds are more elusive.
All you really need to do is sit still for a few minutes to watch and listen. There is so much activity in the woods this time of year.
Our grandson found a nice shed antler and we also discovered some good fossils on our morning walk.
We saw a deer coming down across the neighbors field, and heard some great horned owls conversing across the canyon.
Sat outside late into the evening, enjoying refreshments and conversation, until the wind kicked up and we decided to get to bed.

Get on out to the Moyer farm for a great breakfast and fun activities. You’ll get to see a real working farm up close. Highly Recommended! The event will be held on Saturday, June 2 2007 this year.

Canyon Park is located just 1/2 mile off the Military Ridge State Trail.
Hop on your bikes at the beautlful breezy, shady wayside on County YZ. There’s picnic tables and a Historical Marker about the Military Ridge Road. Bike to Governor Dodge State Park (4-6 miles) or Blue Mounds State Park (15 miles away). Military Ridge Trail Map
Dodgeville is only 4 miles away, and there’s a great A & W Drive In and a Cheese Store right on the trail.
