Another fungus
This looks similar to what we’d call “chicken of the woods” and we’ll need to keep an eye on it to see what it turns out to be. This is the first time I’ve seen it growing directly in the dirt, the “chicken of the woods” that we’ve seen has always been growing on a tree or stump, ususally a red oak. But there is a red oak directly above this one. We’ll get a picture next week, too.

It’s now August. And stuff is growing like crazy. Can’t hardly keep up. Along the driveway its overgrown, the plants on the edge of the woods needs to be trimmed, grass needs to be mowed, landscape plants need upkeep, fungus’ are popping up all over. The garden is doing well but most likely needs water and mulch. But the swamp cabbage is beginning to fail. If you’ve seen the posting about these plants you know that they are the first sign that fall is on the way, just as they are the first thing that’s green in the spring. Here’s a shot from down in the canyon, near the clearing looking east.
