Welcome to Canyon Park Cabin
Canyon Park is located in the rugged, unglaciated “driftless” area of Southwest Wisconsin.
The cabin is a fully furnished vacation rental home, on 44 spectacular acres that you can explore. You’ll enjoy the solitude of the bluffs, and the rush of the water in the spring fed pond and creek. Hiking trails and picnic spots abound.
And it’s Peaceful out here. If you like the State Parks, but don’t like the crowds, you’ll Love Canyon Park.
If you can bring yourself to leave the cool leafy canyon, some of Wisconsin’s best attractions are just minutes away. Dodgeville, Mineral Point, Spring Green and Mt. Horeb are all less than 20 miles from the canyon, and there are many local wonders in that small area.
Canyon Park is ideal for your next Get-Away or Get-Together. Please contact us for information and reservations.
We hope you’ll sign up for our Newsletter and keep in touch with our Blog for photos and more about the Canyon Park Experience!
Peace,
Jeff and Lynn Martin

We've had lots of rain in the area, but we're up near the Military Ridge, so the Cabin and the yard is always nice and dry.
The canyon however, is full of rushing water, and there are many little waterfalls everywhere.
We have way more fireflys than mosquitoes!

I was fortunate to learn folk dancing from Jane Farwell at Folklore Village. Jane was such an inspirational person, that I even enjoyed cleaning house for Jane and her mother, Frances Farwell, one summer in the early 1970s; I just wanted to be able to hang around.
The schoolhouse and the farm were always buzzing with activity, people were always flying in from exotic places around the world, and the festivals were magical.
Our group of high school students from around the county traveled to perform for several different events, wearing Jane’s priceless collection of authentic and vintage costumes.
Jane’s vision is still enriching many lives. Folklore Village is just over the hill from Canyon Park, near Ridgeway, WI. Their Festival of Christmas & Midwinter Traditions is held each year in late December, and this is the 60th year of the celebration! Check their Calendar here.
Folklore Village hosts a great variety of fun activities, from monthly potluck barn dances, concerts and family activities, to elaborate holiday celebrations of folk traditions.
Highly Recommended.
No commentsStar Gazing & Dark Skies
We love to stay out by the campfire until late and watch the stars and planets spin overhead. The skies are very dark and the Milky Way seems so close that you could jump up and touch it.
The view of the horizon in all directions is limited, but we don’t miss much. We’ve seen comets and meteor showers, spectacular northern lights displays, and satellites are easily spotted zipping along overhead.
All of this can be seen with the naked eye, and a good pair of binoculars is the next step tool for beginners and kids. You don’t need a fancy telescope to be an astronomer!
A book that will help you learn the names of the constellations, planets and stars is an essential tool. The internet is a great resource to find out where and when to find objects in the sky. Each new find will lead you on to more discoveries.
After you learn to find your way around, and how to spot interesting objects with your binoculars, the next step is a small telescope. With our inexpensive small telescope, we have observed the Moon, the rings of Saturn, the moons of Jupiter, Mars, stars and planets.
The Iowa County Astronomers website is an excellent local resource on Dark Skies and viewing conditions in our area.
Wisconsin Natural Resources Magazine April 2000 lists many Wisconsin astronomy resources
and The Madison Astronomical Society has a page of links that will keep any novice or expert Astronomer busy for hours!

Canyon Park is located just 1/2 mile off the Military Ridge State Trail.
Hop on your bikes at the beautlful breezy, shady wayside on County YZ. There’s picnic tables and a Historical Marker about the Military Ridge Road. Bike to Governor Dodge State Park (4-6 miles) or Blue Mounds State Park (15 miles away). Military Ridge Trail Map
Dodgeville is only 4 miles away, and there’s a great A & W Drive In and a Cheese Store right on the trail.
